Yes I can understand that, I once went into a tile shop when refurbishing our Bathroom where a sign said "Prices may vary subject to customers attitude" Putting that aside what a great looking place to find memorabilia. HFF and a good weekend for you Annalia.

It sounds like the owners couldn't tolerate the intolerance of the neighbourhood and stuck up a fence to say "If you don't like it you don't have to look - but we are still here!!" A great find Annalia.

Thank you all for the kind and stimulating comments. I liked it that different people had different takes on the situation. In the defence of the establishment's owner - a 70 + year old man who looks like he got stuck in the hippie era, tries to act gruff but seems to have a constant smile playing on his face under cover of his large moustache - I think I need to specify that the changes to the fence were his attempt to pacify the neighbourhood's complaints about his "unsightly mess" and the "danger to the kids if they climb over the fence". He replaced/reinforced most of the loose fitting existing fence with a taller metal mesh (and yes, Henri, you are right, even added barbed wire, as an extra disincentive to trespassers). He also added the privacy screen, so his "junk" could not be seen by passers by, even though the open view on the yard was of course a way for him to entice customers to come and visit. So, I feel he did what he could to appease the neighborhood (not a particularly upscale one, mind you), although, of course, they would prefer for him and his "junk" to be gone altogether, disregarding the fact that this is how he makes his livelihood. As for the kitties, Lothar is right, not much of a change for them, I imagine: they just have to go around the back, where the property melds into the river bank, to go in and out. Cats always find a way through ! :))

A very interesting picture and information Annalia. The type of place that is good to look around but maybe not so good to live close to. It sounds like he tried to make it more acceptable. One man's junk is another man's treasure, I think the saying goes ;-)

Belated HFF...a mad weekend! I love this! It looks like a hoarder house where nothing ever leaves. Although interesting, they really can drive neighbours crazy.,understandably. Thanks for the share. I am imagining the scene behind the fence!
