Fai del bene e dimentica - HFF! (w/PIP)

This place is an intriguing cross between a second hand store (or maybe bazaar would be a better term) and a junk yard, which doubled also as refuge for a colony of street cats. Criticised by the neighborhood as an "eye sore", it reacted by adding a privacy screen to the fence, which, while doing next to nothing to make the place look less unkempt, deprived me of the chance to spend several minutes investigating the haphazardly piled items in its yard and enjoying the antics of the kittens each time I went by. The yellow sign hanging on the building's wall (better seen in the PIP) reads: "Fai del bene e ... dimentica / Fai del male e ... rammenta". A tentative translation into English would sound something like this: "Act kindly and you can forget about it / Act hurtfully and you will remember". I can't help but interpret it as an implied comment on the intolerant attitude of the neighborhood. Well, act kindly on this HFF so you can forget about it and enjoy whatever comes next! Have a great weekend, everyone!

the old and the new (PIP)

The Teatro Comunale di Firenze, once home to the prestigious "Maggio Musicale Fiorentino", is being in part demolished and in part restored, to be turned into a mostly residential aerea. In this photo, what was once the elegant foyer, with the stairs leading to the balcony, now lit by flood lights and with a wheelbarrow parked in the shadows. In the pip, not far from the old Teatro Comunale, one of the protruding volumes of the new "Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino", built in contemporary style, catches the golden light of the setting sun. I am told the inside of the new theatre is magnificent, but the outside, in my view, is bulky and lifeless and only rescued, somewhat, in this image by the sun's golden light.

The relic - HFF!

Relic of a distant rural past, this old "cascina" has seen little maintenance over the years and creates a sharp contrast with the relatively newer and taller buildings that rose up all around it as the city expanded and took over areas that were once mostly fields. I like its defiant "resistance". I was intrigued by the set of 5 old ceramic insulators still attached to the wall. I had not seen one of those in a long time! HFF to all who are "resisting" in these tough times, with a special thought to fellow Ipernians in the USA, South America and South East Asia who are experiencing high surges of infection.

light games

My husband is redoing the roof on our old shed, so for the time being it is roofless and sunlight gets to play games on its weathered, pockmarked walls.

spring fence (it's true!)

Most of us think of autumn when we see fallen leaves, but actually a lot of trees and bushes, especially evergreens, shed their leaves much like we shed our hair: gradually and all year round. So, here are some spring fallen leaves under our rusty old fence, close to the hole our feline friend Dante used when he came visiting. This should be the last "strict confinement" HFF for Italians and hopefully next week you will not get treated to ever more desperate attempts to make our backyard fences interesting ... ;)

Our old shed door and wall formed an interesting abstract in reddish-brown tones.

rusty fence, broken glass

A few summers ago the area of the Anconella Park was hit by a freak weather phenomenon known as a "downdraft". Many of the park trees were uprooted or snapped off and most windows in the area were smashed. Looks like this particular house was abandoned and nobody has bothered to make repairs since. Thought the rusty old fence went rather well with the general air of disrepair. HFF and a nice week end to all!
