The 'First Direct Arena' featuring world known big name stars.. is an entertainment focused arena in Leeds, West Yorkshire. The arena 'officially' opened in September 2013 with Sir Elton John, playing to an audience of 12,000. Bruce Springsteen had, however, held the 'first' concert on 24 July 2013. The building has been nominated for both the 2014 'Carbuncle Cup' for the ugliest building of the previous 12 months, and conversely as one of England's greatest landmarks.

'Birchinlee' is the site of a village built by the Derwent Valley Water Board for the workers and their families who constructed the Derwent and Howden Dams between 1902 and 1916. Most of the workers had previously been engaged in the construction, in Wales, of the Elan Valley Reservoirs where the accommodation was very basic. At Birchinlee, a "model village" was built; its infrastructure included hospitals, school, canteen (pub), post office, shops, recreation hall, public bath house, police station, railway station, rubbish dump with incinerator, and much else. The population rose to 900 people.// [Wiki]

Recent heavy rains have ensured that reservoirs are full to overflowing.. here at 'Ladybower' near Sheffield two overflows were built instead of a retaining dam wall. The water plummets 20 metres down these shafts and along concrete lined tunnels - large enough to drive a bus through.. and into the river Derwent below.
