There is a lot to see on this fine picture, Peter! I guess it is a view from War Memorial (I found it in Google Earth) to the old viaduct and a very pituresque city. Oh, now I see, it's in North Yorkshire near Thirsk where Dr. James Herriott lived and worked! We have been there twice with our Motorhome - we love the Yorkshire Dales very much!

You are right, it is close to th ewar memorial, but on a path down to the river which is not shown on Google map. You can just about see it on Google Earth view though.
The railway viaduct is still in daily use!
