According to the guide book, this was the 'Cellarium' also known as an undercroft, was a storehouse or storeroom, (Hence the English word 'cellar'.
Best Wishes, and a good weekend,
Peter.

What a beautiful shot. I love the golden colour tones. I visited this abbey in 1984, when my children were quite young, and we drove to York pulling a borrowed caravan! We had lots of lovely excursions, and this was one of them. Thanks for the memories.
Best wishes, Rosa.
Peter_Private_Box club has replied to Rosalyn HilborneThank you so much for the wonderful words here. I am so happy that it has brought back fond memories for you. Just casting my mind back to 1984, I remember going on holiday to the Yorkshire moors, usually on my motorbike with a crowd of mates.. Whitby always used to get a visit, as did the railway. And camping cost around a quid a night!!
I've now added another one of the Abbey for you!
Best Wishes
Peter

I suppose we can sit back and imagine life there a few hundred years ago, on a cold dark winters day.... Very different from today!
Best Wishes, and a good week ahead

What an excellent picture here!!
One of the most impressive features of this Abbey must be this magnificent vaulted cellarium!! It really evokes sense of awe..
Thank you for this wonderful sharing!
