I can see the fence and the steps very clearly when I look at this photo in 'FULL' size. I seem to remember that you posted a photo very similar to this on Pan, and remarking that it reminded me of of a shark leaping out to catch a penguin. It's a truly remarkable place, Peter.

It is a genuine cave, which is now well above the snow line, hence permanently frozen. This is kind of the ice equivalent of a stalagmite.
