Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and all good things for The New Year!

Azca, Madrid. This temporary ice-rink had yet to open, I think they were putting the finishing touches to it it as I passed. I had just come from taking a class at Torre Picasso behind, resplendent in green for the season!

Boro,
Thank you both!
Keep well..... from Dave UK.
Andy Rodker club has replied to David G Johnson clubAndy Rodker club has replied to Jenny McIntyre clubThese past 8 years I have been living in Madrid teaching Business English.
It simply means teaching English to adults, often in companies but with some private students as well.
I am freelance and invoice the hours I teach to a number of English acadamies (of which there are 100s here), or to the students direct if arranged privately. It's big business and something that takes English people by surprise as it simply doesn't exist in the UK, as you can imagine. When I told friends and family - in the early days - what I was doing in Madrid, everyone assumed it was teaching English in schools! An understerstandable assumption!
The downside is that the pay isn't great and as you are paid only for the hours you teach, the enormously long holidays, the travel time between classes and the frequent public holidays need to be factored in. The plus side is that the students are all enthusiastic, great fun and you do get a good sense of job satisfaction! I wish I had made the switch (from financial services in London) 20 years earlier!
Sorry for the long answer!
The short answer: I teach!!!
Best wishes,
Andy
Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year to you and yours.

I enjoyed reading about your job and why you are in Madrid. I expect that though you aren't paid as much as you could be, the satisfaction makes up for it. That's nice...and you know, who cares about making a lot of money if your job makes you miserable. You are making an important difference in so many's lives and it's everlasting as long as they practice a bit as time goes on. How cool is that? SO COOL. :)
Happy holidays! YOU ROCK! :)
Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year to you and yours!

This is in Azca. It was the main busuness centre from about 1975 to the early years of this century. The Torre Picasso - green at nightime at Christmas but I am sure you know it in its usual daytime white (here: www.ipernity.com/doc/2247598/47429782/in/album/929182 ) - was the tallest building in Spain until the building of the Cuatro Torres.
