Everything in Madrid and much of the rest of Spain is scrubbed, scoured, bleached, brushed, mopped, swept, etc., to within an inch of its life, especially the floors! (Metro stations are no exception).
I first thought that it was a peculiar Spanish fetish.
But then I learnt: dust gets into everything! Due to the geology and soil make-up of the plateau of Central Spain, the soil turns into dust at the mere drop of a hat.
And it's true. I used to dust in Blighty about once a week, sometimes once a fortnight. In Madrid if you leave it for two days there is already a very noticeable dust cover.
Gawd knows what it does to ones lungs!!!
