'Clasicos'. HFF Everybody.

The original 1919 metro trains (called 'clasicos') restored and on display at Chamartín station on an unused section of track, but they don't seem to be available to view close up. The fences have always been in place and guards patrol whenever I pass by, which is often (and slightly worrying; do they see me coming and think; "Here comes that hooligan Englishman again with his dastardly camera!")?
BTW when I first visited Madrid in 1981 to see my sister who had moved here that year, these 'clasicos' were still in circulation and I used them a lot. They were horribly hot and rickety by then. I think they were finally de-commisioned the following year.

This station is huge. If you want to change metro lines here, in some instances you have a 12 minute walk. This mainline section of the station effectively cuts the metro element in two, hence the long walks to get under or over this between lines!
HFF everyone! Red escalator.

Not the most beautiful of stations; this, the busiest of Madrid's mainline stations, nevertheless it has a certain functional or utilitarian charm, imho!

The Madrid metro system calls itself 'One of the best in the world' and for once the marketing hype reflects reality.
As I am continually rushing between classes all over Madrid, I need to be confident that I will never have to wait more than 7 minutes for a train (4 in the rush hour). As I am only paid for the actual hours I teach, travel time is money lost and so a speedy and efficient system serves me well!
HFF everyone!!

I used to give classes twice a week for a few years in this southern Madrid district so became familiar with this station, as well as the 15 minute walk through a less than salubrious area of Madrid. But I'm a big lad and wot with the skull 'n' crossbones tattoo on my forehead, I had very little trouble here!

Again, Google stole my notes on this old Pano shot and I initially forgot which metro station this belongs to. My friend Campayo came to the rescue and reminded me that it is Pueblo Nuevo metro station!
However I have lost my notes regarding the artist. Gato Land please help! I know you knew the artist!
