Wheal Coates Tin Mine

Wheal Coates Tin Mine
Outbuildings - no idea what their purpose was.
But continually astonished by the fact that tin miners descended 100s of feet and then went 100s of feet out to sea and under the sea, to mine tin. I can't get my head around it.

Dimas Sequeira, tiabunna, Andreas Swierzy, and 22 other people have particularly liked this photo

A lovely scene. It must have been a really tough life for the old miners. Quite a few, as you note, came out to Australia. I saw some of their old cottages some years ago, the low doors and ceilings showed they must have been very short people.

Interesting point George.
Maybe the average height of Cornish miners was below average due to generations of poor diet and disease, but there would have been many tall miners as well. I just think they must have banged their heads a lot!
