Calypso bulbosa var. occidentalis

These were photographed near Leavenworth, Washington, at Chiwaukum Creek where we did some hiking last month. These were growing everywhere along the creek, often in clumps, and this is just one of the many photographs we took there. This is the Western Fairy Slipper, different in coloration from the Eastern variety. Both varieties grow in our area, but this variety is found only in the Pacific Northwest.
