While hiking at Chiwaukum Creek near Leavenworth, Washington, we found this one plant of the Western Fairy Slipper that was almost white. There is a white variety, but this is not it - just a very light-colored form, but beautiful none the less. nativeorchidsofthepacificnorthwest.blogspot.com/2011/07/c...

Another picture of this earliest and loveliest of our native orchids. These were photographed on the Oregon side of the Columbia Gorge along the Gorge Trail. This is the Western Fairy Slipper, distinguished by the brown markings on the lip and the white "beard." nativeorchidsofthepacificnorthwest.blogspot.com/2011/06/c...

These were photographed near Leavenworth, Washington, at Chiwaukum Creek where we did some hiking last month. These were growing everywhere along the creek, often in clumps, and this is just one of the many photographs we took there. This is the Western Fairy Slipper, different in coloration from the Eastern variety. Both varieties grow in our area, but this variety is found only in the Pacific Northwest. nativeorchidsofthepacificnorthwest.blogspot.com/2011/07/c...

I decided to post a couple of pictures of native orchids in their habitats. This is the Western Fairy Slipper, photographed in the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon and shows why it is sometimes called the Hider of the North. The photo was taken by my wife. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2011/07/hiking-in-c...

It will not be long now before the Fairy Slippers are blooming again. We have an outing planned for the beginning of May to see them at Deschutes Falls State Park. This is an older picture taken later in the year (at a higher altitude) along the Goat Mountain Trail in Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. It shows the Western Fairy Slipper which differs from eastern in that the "beard" or hairs on the lip are white, not yellow. nativeorchidsofthepacificnorthwest.blogspot.com/2010/07/c...

The is the rare white form of the Western Fairy Slipper. I posted a picture of the ordinary form several days ago (see below). This was found by a friend and we went to see it on a very wet and rainy day since we did not want to miss the opportunity to photograph it. It is the only one of this form that I've seen. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2012/05/spring-in-w...
