Playing peep in Ibiza!

Seen in old Ibiza Town – Maybe the people who owned this house were artist? Whatever the case it makes a good tourist attraction and photo for me. Nice large. Enjoy the weekend.

Weathering the storm

20 Mar 2016 27 21 295
This lone tree in the Yorkshire Dales, knows what is to come. Moments after taking this, the heavens opened up and we had torrential rain but afterwards all was back to normal and the tree quite happy. Another taken in the vicinity of Settle. Enjoy full screen.

HWW ~ A walk through old Marseilles

04 Jun 2023 23 31 219
Another French old town street view here. This area just behind the town hall. I waited till no people were on here but I could do nothing about the bin. Ah well. HWW, have a great day.

Ibiza Town

Welcome to Ibiza, one of Spain's Balearic Islands. Above the harbour is the old quarter of Dalt Vila, with the Gothic-style Cathedral de Santa María and views from the Renaissance-era fortifications. This is our last day of our one week Mediterranean cruise, so its off into the town now to explore... Enjoy full size.

Another shot from Iles St Margarete near Cannes, France. Enjoy this day, whether cool & wet or very hot.

Marseilles: from Notre Dame de la Garde

04 Jun 2023 11 13 193
An overview of the city here looking north. We see practically the whole of the tourist area with the large yacht marina, port and even part of the old castle. Main sights from left: The old fort now a museum with the tall lighthouse structure, the Cathedrale La Major, centre of front buildings (main tourist promenade) shows the city hall (Hotel De Ville). The local ferry port behind and also the new cruise port in the distance, where our ship lay. Just below us on the right is the treelined street we should have come up to the Notre Dame, with its many coach/bus parking spots bringing the tourist up here. Enjoy full screen

Woods to warm our hearts

A forest trail through some woods in Cheshire taken a while back now. Enjoy this cool rainy day here in Britain but keep cool over there in mainland Europe. Best full screen.

Chew Reservoir fences

As mainland Europe swelters in another unnatural heatwave, here are a couple of local photos to cool you down, taken a few days ago. It’s one of my local reservoirs just a 15 minute car ride and then an hours hike to the top of these Saddleworth Moors. As can be seen, the water levels are down here too after our droughts earlier in May and June but all is back to normal again with our temperatures and rain. The PiP (adjacent photo) shows a wider view. Enjoy the weekend

A summer view of my local reservoir at the top of our Saddleworth Moors: Chew. A good steep hike to get up to here. Enjoy full screen

Stay cool in the woods

03 Jun 2023 20 15 175
Another capture from the Iles St Margarete near Cannes. It’s hot here, and so these pines and eucalyptus trees help cool us down. As well as that, the aromatic pines lifted our senses as we slowly walked through here. Enjoy full screen.

HWW ~ around the corner - again!

03 Jun 2023 25 29 236
A few days ago I posted a photo here from the top of this flight of steps in Cannes. Here is the one from the bottom in slightly different lighting conditions. The PiP shows the top view. HWW, have a great day.

Marseilles: fish market

04 Jun 2023 16 14 183
A day in this heady city brings us down to the giant marina with this fish market. It is not necessarily a happy chore preparing and trying to sell fish here, but the family must live and we know the French just love there fresh foods. The pips shows more stalls from the same market. Best full screen.

HBM - Finding religion

04 Jun 2023 23 31 171
A steep very tiring climb up to this church with hundreds of dusty steps in this heat was probably a mistake. The benches very welcome at this half-way point. In fact, the Basilica was so crowded we never went inside. I know – a great shame! A fine view of the city was had from the top though and then we saw the easy roadway up, along the top left ridge here –our way down too. Ah well. Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde, known to local citizens as la Bonne Mère, is a Catholic basilica in Marseille, France, and the city's best-known symbol. The site of a popular Assumption Day pilgrimage, it is the most visited site in Marseille. Its construction started in 1853 and lasted for forty years. Enjoy full screen. Have a great day.

Marseilles: upside-down

04 Jun 2023 24 23 266
“Hang-on to your hats, bags and money as you walk upside down on this sticky ceiling.” An amazing sight greets us with this large sheltered area here in the city of Marseilles. The roof ceiling is in fact most mirror-like and reflects the world below with little distortion. A tourist ‘must’ for selfies and Ipernity entries but soon one has a slight pain in the neck :) The pip shows the normal view Best full screen.

Hanging on to life

05 Jul 2023 19 14 164
These trees, up in our Yorkshire Dales have a tough time. Not only do they have fierce winters up here but they have little to cling onto. This lone tree however thrives up on the tops near Langcliffe, clinging to the stone and displaying its new green leaves. Enjoy full screen.

Bedecked fences in Cannes

03 Jun 2023 28 55 202
A lovely Bougainvillea makes its home on this series of balconies in the old town of Cannes. It was quite striking when first seen. Just what these apparent doors on this residential building are doing here, I do not know – perhaps old fire-escapes? Enjoy the weekend
