HBM - Remembrance seat at Dovestones

07 Aug 2023 19 34 165
Dovestones reservoir has a couple of area’s where trees are planted in remembrance of departed loved ones. Here we are in a small quite corner where one can look out over the water in peace and tranquillity and not disturbed too many times by photographers. I am accompanied this time by our Ipernity pal Toz who is also clicking away. The PiP shows the view to another more sheltered bench just behind me that looks onto this one. Enjoy full screen. Have a great day.

View of Bird’s Rock (Craig yr Ardeyn)

26 Jul 2023 17 19 162
Another impressive peak here in the county of Gwynedd, Wales. At 258m ASL , not the highest mountain in Britain but it’s still an impressive hill. We have an old ruined house to add interest and also a fence to lead part of the way up to this very popular rock climbing destination. An old fort also sits high up there. Interestingly, around 1% of the entire British Cormorant population nest on the rock but there is a wide range array of other nesting birds too –hence the name. It is about 5 miles from the sea. Tal-y-llyn Lake, North Wales

26 Jul 2023 19 23 176
Or Llyn Mwyngil as it is called in Welsh. A shallow 10ft deep ‘glacial ribbon’ lake known for its fishing and photographic views. It is around 1 mile long and has an area of approx. 220 acres. I believe views from the other end on a calm day give wonderful reflections of the surrounding peaks. I am here on its southern corner looking up to to Mynydd Dol-ffanog (you get a get a prize for pronouncing that right :) with the winding A487 climbing the steep valley. A much smaller road runs by the right side of the lake here to meet the big road eventually but I believe one can also walk the length of the lake on the left-hand side. Enjoy full screen

Marseilles and its concrete fences

04 Jun 2023 38 41 242
Down-town Marseilles in France is the area that we are going through. Camera in hand and ready to climb these steps up to the high cathedral path (pip). Quite a hike from here in the hot weather. Enjoy the weekend.

Silver amongst the violet

07 Aug 2023 26 24 230
Another walk up Chew Valley in the Dovestones Reservoir area brings us to this Silver Birch tree amongst the summer flowering heather. I am with our Ipernity friend Toz who is busy firing away with his own version of this scene. The Pip shows my 2014 version. Toz's vesion: www.ipernity.com/doc/2405228/52060760 Enjoy full screen

HWW ~ Welsh grazing sheep

25 Jul 2023 29 27 188
Green fields and dry-stone walls make this a very British scene as the sheep graze and observe a stranger on this high hill. Taken near Dolgelleu in mid Wales. HWW, have a great day.

Nant Gwernol

26 Jul 2023 28 23 217
A walk from the village of Abergynolwyn, east of the seaside town of Tywyn in Wales brings us alongside this wonderful river full of small waterfalls and rough clear waters. Our path, here on the left, is actually the one to and from the village to the terminus Talyllyn Railways narrow gauge line. The PiP shows a bigger waterfall at Dolgoch, a mile or so west of here.

HBM - A seat above Aberdyfi

27 Jul 2023 24 29 208
A decision to do a panoramic walk from and above the Welsh seaside town of Aberdyfi brings us to this idyllic viewpoint overlooking the estuary of the River Dovey (Afon Dyfi). We are also looking southwards down the Irish Sea towards Aberystwth. Now venturing Northway’s over splendid hillside dotted with sheep before we drop down to the golf course and beach again for our return trip to the town below (out of sight here –and to our left). The weather was to turn better. Enjoy full screen. Have a great day.

Journeys end!

25 Jul 2023 17 16 140
Journeys end! A visit to Barmouth cannot be complete without crossing the estuary by ferry to Fairbourne and it’s narrow gauge railway. Here we are at its end terminus which gives us a chance for a photo call as well as coffee and cakes. The 12.25inch gauge railway has been running for 100 years and is run mostly by volunteers. The close up-engine PiP shows ‘Sherpa’ a 0-4-OST built in 1978 and the symbols on the side of the engine gives a clue to its Darjeeling Himalaya Railways connection, on which it is designed. The other picture shows just how many carriages these small engines can pull (or push). It is on its way back to Fairbourne itself with its cargo of happy holiday makers. The buildings show parts of Barmouth on the other side of the unseen River Mawddach. More info: www.fairbournerailway.com/index.html Enjoy full screen

Barmouth Viaduct

25 Jul 2023 21 14 197
We are looking at the famous Barmouth viaduct here on the River Mawddach estuary. It is in fact the longest timber viaduct in Wales at 820m and the oldest in regular use. It was opened in 1867 and carries the Cambrian Railway line. It is also a pedestrian and cycle path. We don't see the impressive swing bridge here to the left for that is for another photo capture. The small town of Barmouth sits to the left too. We are standing near the terminus station of the Fairbourne Narrow gauge railway. The valley between the highest peaks here is were I took my Cregennan Lake and Pared-y-Cefn-hir photos from. see 3xPips Enjoy full screen.

Ibiza Town port lighthouse

Sailing into Ibiza town is a great experience and as we come to the harbour walls, both on the ship and on foot, we are attracted by this lighthouse. Have a great weekend.

Pared-y-Cefn-hir

25 Jul 2023 20 22 162
Having just arrived at Lake Cregennen we are first greeted by this majestic peak. At 383m it looks a difficult trek to the top so we did not try it. However along with these farm buildings it makes for a fine backdrop. To my right are the lakes themselves with views towards Cadair Idris. PiP. Enjoy full screen. Have a great day.

HWW ~ Ibiza and its walls.

05 Jun 2023 18 23 148
Ibiza has a lot of history. The port was settled in 654 BC by the Phoenicians and after that it saw many invaders and new occupants through the ages. It is no surprise then that such walls as we see here were soon erected and as per usual in such places the churches built on the highest point. The archway leads us right into the inner walled town up to the military sections and cathedral. The PiP shows one of the many small historic remains along the walls themselves. HWW, have a great day.

Majestic Barmouth

25 Jul 2023 16 16 203
Just a few yards away from my previous photo one can get views like this. We are looking down to the south edge of the town. It mainly faces the sea on the other side of the rock face we see here. A very long hike if we would have wanted to walk down from this viewpoint. Of course the star of this photo is Barmouth’s historic railway viaduct along with its now defunct swinging bridge. The distant hills belong to the Llŷn Peninsula and the Island to the left is Bardsley Island. ‘Barmouth's location on the west coast of North Wales and lying between a mountain range and the sea on the mouth of the river Mawddach is arguably one of the most beautiful locations in Wales. It rests just within the south west corner of Snowdonia National Park and is steeped in a history rich with connections to the shipping and slate industries.’ More info: www.barmouth.org.uk Enjoy full screen.

A Cregennan Lake vista

25 Jul 2023 30 39 237
A summer five day visit to this southern end of the Snowdonia National Park begins with a beautiful valley that we last visited in 2012. We are here now near the bigger of the two high llynnau Cregennen lakes looking east towards Cadair Idris. A little cool for a picnic today but a hot coffee might be in order as we admire the views. Cadair Idris is one of Wales’s favourite mountains at 893m. Another fine lake (Llyn Cadir) can be spied from the top of there, but not for us on this trip. Enjoy full screen. Have a great day.

The benches of Ibiza

A joy of summer

24 Jun 2023 19 13 232
Perhaps the best thing about our summers is the amount of colourful flowers and blooms we see. The British love their gardens and in almost all cases there are abundant flowers growing in them. We at our home are no exception and here is one flower of the many that adorn our large Geranium Johnsons Blue spread. Our many bumble bees loved these too but now in July these flowers have faded letting new plants give their own unique exhibitions. Enjoy full screen.

A visit to Ibiza

05 Jun 2023 25 15 215
As the next set of tourist comes into land, this is a scene that may await the ones that care. Ibiza tends to be known for its wonderful beaches, bustling bays and nightlife but here in old Ibiza town gems like this exist. We are looking up to the Catedra se Santa Maria. Enjoy full screen.
