Lynmouth: the Rhenish Tower

The tower is an interesting combination of red brick & stone. I wonder why it is called Rhenish Tower?

Ah yes Wilhelm, I know from personal experience just how many towers and castles there are on the Rhein and also the Mosel. This could have been modelled on either of your two examples but I prefer the Mäuserturm. I too have some nice pictures of that, someday I might put them on here. I have no real idea, and I think nobody else will either which it was modelled on. The architect had probably just finished his European tour that was fashionable in the 19th century.

A nice 'classical image of the tower Herb the original tower built around 1832 was small squat structure which some said was an eyesore around 1850 the top was added giving the appearance of a Rhenish tower

Thanks Peter. As I said to Trester (above) just a moment ago, I imagine somebody had seen the towers on the Rhein and thought the squat building could look better. Cheers for this.
