Elephant Rock and the Old Graveyard

Elephant Rock and the Old Graveyard
This is just up the coast a little from Boddin Point and makes a great stroll. First we see the distinctive natural stone feature of Elephant Rock and can see easily why it has that name. Second we see perched on the edge of that rock headland on the right a very old graveyard where you can find the grave of one George James Ramsay. Not a well known man: but one who, according to his gravestone, was born on 24 November 1859, nineteen years after his death on 17 December 1840.

Well worth the effort of an extra drive and walk of about a mile round trip. It also had the bonus of the cemetery and the Boddin Point lime kilns. Glad you liked it. ~ Herb

The rocks indeed match their name. A great place to be buried with a view - well deserved I'd think, with such an innovative life span.

Thanks George, yes a burial over an elephants back here. Unfortunately the graveyard is now unattended and quickly slipping down to the sea. Its been a long time since anyone was buried there. (Although - I rather doubt anybody was really buried as it all seemed to be all built on rock. More likely that their coffins were left entombed in the rock too.)
