'You can't live in bullshit' was said by Jan Schaefer, Amsterdam's alderman for housing in the 1970s and 1980s. Well, in recent years there has been a lot of bullshit about housing in Amsterdam. Many hotels were built, good for tourism, good for conferences, good for employment, good for income. However, housing has been compromised. Waiting lists for social rent are endless, rents, including the social rents, have risen tremendously, houses are only available for companies or wealthy people who are not always going to live in them... Isn't it time to build for the increasing number of people who are living in and around Amsterdam?
