Submarine drydock crane

From Birkenhead Priory's yard.
The expansion of the docks cost the parish most of the housing which the church here served, and later cost the church its graveyard, and then its purpose, since the community had been moved along!
The ancient (11th Century or so) priory at the site is, however, now a museum, and its chapel is in use again.

It's the shadow on the floor that I most like here, although the significant difference between the received image and the reflection interest me too — enhanced by the knowledge that there's yet a third perspective from outside of the window.
Hotchkiss

A former Hotchkiss factory building perhaps, or just an advert in the slates?
This is opposite the "B and B hotel", where they have a hilarious problem with their WiFi access. For one thing, it doesn't reach into the ground floor bedroom I had, so I had to sit at reception to use it. But much more seriously, you have to apply by text message for access, and await the reply with a PIN. Except there's no mobile phone signal. Doh.
Batterie Todt, flooded gun chamber

|
(If you're looking through the France pics, there are 23 of this bunker, and then it varies.)
In the Batterie Todt, number 4 bunker — once a German gun which could fire far enough to reach England.
Found, by chance, with refreshing lack of healh-and-safety mania, or indeed "restoration".
This whole place was a really powerful antidote to the experience I had at Oradour (see later in this set) where the well-intentioned "preservation" of the place had robbed it of all emotion for me.

It was pitch black down here in the magazine, so I was using my camera's flashgun as a means of getting glimpses of rooms.
Needless to say, this one lept out and scared the **** out of me.
