Neighbours from way back

I was picking greens in my plot at the community garden I am a member of when a friend came by to tend her plot. She had her mother with her and we were introduced. It turned out that over forty years ago she (the mother) and I were neighbours on a downtown street and, although we didn't know each other, we knew a half dozen families in common. We talked so long that neither they nor I got our garden work done before a great downpour of rain came down and we all had to run.
