Northern Sea Walls

Port of Ness village, Isle of Lewis, Outher Hebrides, Scotland, HWW! Nis, or Ness, is the most northerly parish in Lewis. It has the highest proportion of Gaelic speakers in Scotland, over 90%. It was settled by the Norse and its story since then has been closely tied to seafaring and to the sea. www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/lewis/portnis/index.html Better large in my opinion!

14th Century Tower Castle,

Flat light and a gentle mist for this image of Portencross Castle, On the Firth of Clyde in the tiny coastal hamlet of Portencross, North Ayrshire! The castle was in severe danger of serious structural collapse but In 1998 a local charity, the Friends of Portencross Castle (FOPC), were successful in putting together a funding package of just over £1 million for repairs, and this is the result! HFF and a good weekend,,,,,,,,,,,,, Large for detail! A link for anyone interested in its history! www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/westkilbride/portencrosscastle/index.html

Abbey Ruins.

These very attractive stone colours are at Kilwinning Abbey and monastery in North Ayrshire, Scotland. It is I understand a type of limestone from a local quarry, (Goldcraigs freestone quarry) Founded in the late 1100s it was the home of Tironensian Benedictine monks, who lived here for around 400 years, the majority of monks would have come from the Mother House of Kelso Abbey. Large view for detail and HWW!

Memorial to Shipwreck Victims, (2 pips,)

Iolaire Memorial, Stornoway HMY Iolaire, an Admiralty Yacht sank at the entrance of Stornoway harbour in the early morning, New Year’s Day, 1919. 280 Island servicemen were returning home from the Great War when the yacht struck a group of rocks a mile from safety in Stornoway Harbour and only a few yards offshore. 205 of the passengers perished of whom 181 were islanders. The sculpture is an actual-size blueprint, 189 feet from stem to stern, with a 27 foot beam. It shows the true size of the vessel and represent the number of crew and passengers on board as she sailed for Stornoway on 31 December 1918. From the site, www.visitouterhebrides.co.uk/see-and-do/iolaire-monument-p529951 The image is slightly dark to match sombre mood of the memorial and the lower pip will enlarge A large view please,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, HBM and a good week!
