Imagination-inspiring mystery is one advantage of getting really close to what you're photographing, Robert. Actually, this is a half-crop of a larger photo. I've been doing that more since I got the camera I took this with. It has better pixels than my previous cameras and editing produces fewer artefacts like halos.

Thanks, Ulrich. As I mentioned to Robert, getting really close helps produce photos that stimulate the imagination. My newest camera helps by having quality pixels that stand up well to editing (so I can crop more often, for example) and I hope to be able to exploit it more for this purpose.
