HEINRICH GUDEHUS
30 March 1845- 9 Oct 1909
German Tenor
Studied with Malvina Schnorr von Carolsfeld at Brunswick and with Gustav Engel in Berlin. He sang at City Theatre Riga (1875), Theater Lübeck (1876), City Theater Freiburg(1877), City Theatre Hamburg (April 1878), City Theater Bremen (September 1878). In the summer of 1879 Gudehus was a guest at the Court Opera Dresden . While at the Court Opera Dresden in 1881 he met Richard Wagner who was so convinced of Gudehus that he chose him to be one of the first two singers to perform in 1882 at Bühnenweihfestspiels in Parsifal at the Bayreuth Festival . Also in 1884 and in 1886 he sang Tristan ,& Stolzing at Bayreuth. Guest performances in 1884 at Covent Garden Opera in London , 1888 to Riga , 1890/1891 at the Metropolitan OperaNew York and at the Royal. Court Opera Berlin. 1896 He retired, but was due to loss of assets forced by the so-called. Leipziger bank crash, take up teaching positions.
KARL SCHEIDEMANTEL
(29 January 1859 – 26 June 1923)
German baritone
His supporters were Bodo Borchers in Weimar, well known voice teacher Julius Stockhausen in Frankfurt, and composer Franz Liszt. At the age of 25 he joined the ensemble of the Dresden Hofoper where he was named Kammersänger, "Chamber Singer to the Saxon Grand Duke" in 1884. He sang at the 1886, 1888, 1891, and 1892 Bayreuth festivals. He sang at most of the great European opera houses, especially the Vienna State Opera, where in April and May 1890 he sang the roles of Heiling, Renato, Zampa, Wolfram, Luna and, Sachs. He was a guest singer at La Scala in 1892. His final career appearance was on 8 June 1911 as Hans Sachs. Scheidemantel sang over 170 roles in his career. Notably, he created the role of Herr von Faninal in Richard Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier in 1911.

Studied with Gustav Engel in Berlin.Début in 1873 in Dresden as Pamina in "The Magic Flute". In 1882 Richard Wagner selected her as the original Kundry in Parsifal. From that time on till her retirement in 1903, she remained a member of the Dresden Opera, with frequent leaves of absence for appearances in the principal European opera houses . She Began in the lyric repertoire and mainly in Italian opera, From 1881 she turned the Wagner singing and was one of the greatest Wagnerian singers of her generation. In 1874, she was at Dresden in the world premiere of "The Folkunger" by Kretschmar . 1882, she sang at the Bayreuth Festival in the first "Parsifal" performances alternating with Amalie Materna and Marianne Brandt the role of Kundry. By 1894, she performed at the Bayreuth Festival, Isolde "Tristan & Isolde " 1886 at he first performance of Wagner's opera admired in Bayreuth. She appeared in London in the roles appeared as Elsa in "Lohengrin", as Elisabeth in "Tannhäuser", as Eva in "Die Meistersinger" and as Leonore in Beethoven's "Fidelio" . In 1893 she starred in the world premiere of "Evanthia" by Paul Umlauff at the court theater of Gotha. Her repertoire included outside the Wagner repertoire Armida Gluck's "Iphigenia in Tauris", Leonore in "Fidelio", Genoveva in the opera by R. Schumann,"The Queen of Sheba" by Goldmark, the title role in of Sheba by Goldmark, the title role in "Jessonda" by L.Spohr and Leonore in "Troubadour".
