KARL STREITMANN

Austrian Tenor
He first began studying medicine, then decided in a career as an actor and debuted as (as "Gessler", "Gringoire" and "Hamlet"), in Pressburg (Bratislava). In 1876 he came to the Berlin National Theatre, then went to theaters in Bydgoszcz and Torun, From 1879 -1882 he joined Vienna Carl Theatre in 1879-82 In 1882 he went to the National Theatre in Prague and made his debut here as Umberto Spinola in "The Merry Widow" by Johann Strauss .he finally finally sang in Prague José in "Carmen", the Tamino in "The Magic Flute", Wilhelm Meister in "Mignon" of A.Thomas and even the Manrico in "Il Trovatore".
He went to the Theater an der Wien in Vienna and was now one of the most popular operetta singer of the Austrian capital. He sang Barinkay in the premiere of Johann Strauss II operetta "The Gypsy Baron" in 1885 In 1888 he sang as a guest at the Court Opera in Berlin Lyonel in Flotow's "Martha". He undertook a North American tour 1889-1892 and returned to Vienna at Theater an der Wien, where he sang in the world premiere of another Johann Strauss operetta, "Jabuka" on 12.10.1894. From 1887 he created a large list of operetta premieres in which he performed in works by Strauss, Millöcker, Franz von Suppe, and Offenbach, Guest performances led him in 1899 to the Berlin Court Opera, 1910 the Court Theatre of Stuttgart, Amsterdam (1907-08) and at the German Theatre in Prague (1915). ,
