Schönen Dank, Erika! Die Reise war super, Beschränkungen gab es keine und ab dem Flughafen trug keiner mehr eine Maske. Ich hatte mir 2 Wochen vor Abflug einen 2. Booster abgeholt und eine antivirale Mundspülung dabei- alles gut!

Wir waren auch schön am Stromboli. aber das Hochwandern zum Kraterrand haben wir uns verkniffen...

Ich war ja auch dort;-) Selbst mit Tele noch weit weg.... Der Stromboli verhält sich anders als diese Spalteneruptionen in island, und das hier ist eine kleine. Du bekommst übrigens, sobald du in die Nähe kommst, eine Warnmeldung auf's Handy mit Verhaltensregelungen und einem Link zur Gasvorhersage inklusive Windrichtung!

Somehow I doubt that fence will stop anybody (or a volcano), Gudrun. An interesting place to visit though. HFF and have a good weekend.

Thanks a lot, George! This is private land so I guess the fence is just to keep people from straying too much from the path and trampling all over the ground;-) The volcano is still a few km in the distance.

Das würde ich auch gern mal sehen! Den einzigen noch funktionnierenden Vulkan, den ich kenne, ist der Vesuv, ausserdem noch viele erloschene in der Auvergne... HFF Gudrun.

Vielen Dank, Christa! In Island sind die Chancen gut auf einen aktiven Vulkan und praktisch das ganze Land besteht aus Vulkanen;-) Allerdings ist der Weg hier nicht besonders angenehm zu laufen, es geht knapp 300m hoch bis zum ersten Blick auf den Ausbruch.

Thanks a lot, Peter! Yes, they all came back though some broken ankles had to be evacuated by rescue services;-) Some don't keep to paths and get stuck in bogs, some go on the lava - there are always idiots and contenders for the Darwin award;-)

I would certainly be curious enough to traipse along this rough track to experience live volcanic action, but would not do that without an experienced Icelandic guide. The natives seem to have a good handle on whether the area is relatively safe, and are not afraid.

The Met Office has exceedingly good warning systems, there's a gas pollution forecast telling you exactly from which direction it's safe. Sometimes with too much gas pollution around or in bad weather they close down the site by blocking the access to the car parks. Every smartphone in the area automatically gets all alerts.
So to be at risk you have to wilfully ignore all warnings;-)
