Cerro FitzRoy/Chaltén

Cerro FitzRoy/Chaltén
Cerro Fitz Roy or Chaltén (Tehuelche for "smoking mountain" because of the frequent clouds) is a 3405m high granite peak in the Southern Patagonian ice field. In the note a wider view from further along the footpath, Piedras Blancas glacier is on the right.

Cerro Fitz Roy oder Chaltén (Tehueche für rauchender Berg wegen der häufigen Wolken) ist ein 3405m hoher Granitgipfel am südlichen patagonischen Eisfeld. Im PiP ein umfassender Blick ein Stück weiter den Wanderweg entlang, rechts der Piedras Blancas Gletscher.

Those icy peaks look magnificent in the sunshine............and the blue sky is sublime. Nicely composed Gudrun with some interesting looking branches in the foreground. The walking there looks like hard work with those boulders.

I like the PiP too.............always good to get a wider view. The houses give us some idea of scale as well.

Thanks very much, Keith! A rare fine day, sometimes climbers sit in the village for weeks waiting for the break in the clouds.... The path wasn't too bad (this was a small detour) but I couldn't do it any longer these days.

Thanks very much, Amelia! We were really lucky! By afternoon clouds had come up even though the mountains themselves were still to be seen. The next day the clouds came down and the day after it rained very hard....

Thanks a lot, Peter! One reason that the mountains look a bit surreal is the difference in elevation. The photo was taken at only ca. 700m compared to 3400m for Fitzroy!
