Thanks a lot, Amelia! The fog crept in from one of the bays on the coast. Luckily on the other side of the pass the fog had already started dissolving and we could glimpse the sea. In Iceland you never know what the weather's like round the corner;-)

Danke vielmals, Volker! Diese bisher noch wenig besuchte, weil lange total abgehängte Ecke Islands ist ein Traum. Es gibt ganz viele markierte Wanderwege vom 1-Stunden-Spaziergang bis zur Mehrtageswanderung und auch auf der "Strasse" lässt sich gut wandern, weil so gut wie keine Autos kommen.

Großen Dank, Christel! Die Entstehung ist eine ähnliche: Hot Spot-Vulkanismus:-) Nur hier Rhyolit statt Basalt und lange erloschen.

Ja, da waren überall die Eiszeitgletscher drüber! Die Gegend hier ist der älteste Teil, der schon lange vom Hot Spot weggewandert ist, die aktive Vulkanzone dagegen produziert ständig neu...
