Mount Everest.

Mount Everest.
The highest point on Earth. I wish I'd been at the top looking down, but had to settle for being at the bottom looking up. I'm still at relatively low altitude here...not quite above the tree-line...probably around 14,000 ft asl. The nearer you get, the less you can see, the other surrounding mountains and general lie of the land being of sufficient scale to hide her from view when you're up close and personal.

In Memory of the poor souls who tragically lost their lives in the recent avalanche above Base Camp.

The Sherpas and Guides who work the mountain have my absolute respect.

a dangerous pinnacle demanding respect for those whom have braved, won and lost in their goal to surmount. Awesome to see this earth shrine in person!

Hello Phill....how are you?
I agree totally about the respect for Sherpas and porters...no- one of the westerners would be summitting without them, despite all their modern equipment and technology.
Have just returned from a couple of weeks up bush, camping. Getting autumn and chilly. Hope spring is bringing you some joy!

A very poignant photo Phill.............and a fitting tribute to those poor folks who lost their lives and their families whose lives have changed forever! I hope their colleagues protests result in great improvements in their pay and terms of employment.

You must feel very privileged to have been lucky enough to stand at the foot of this magnificent peak................something relatively few people have done.............and to have the photos to prove it!!
