Beautiful lace and a lot of work - I don't know the tatting technique but I made quite a few crochet laces and with this fine yarn it's a challenge! Like also the colors in the original!

I love the focusing on the a detail in the pattern. Val this doesn't look like any tatting-pattern I've seen. It looks more like made the traditional way of moving wooden pins with the thread and pinning the crossed threads on to a pattern. the holes at the edges and some other holes are where the pins have been. I have done that kind of lace and I think this looks more like it.
Google the Swedish word - knyppling- if you want to see examples of how it's done.

Nice to have it on black ... makes the presentation so dramatic Val. Like the focus to show the intricate detail of the lace. Vintage lace/linen workmanship has such a warmth to it ... you can almost feel the energy that flowed from the hands of the one working on it through when you touch it. :)
