Thanks. It was taken on a photographic holiday in Southern China, but this (like any other picture of Cormorant fishermen you're likely to see) was staged. 99% of the local men who (using shared or hired props - boat, nets, lanterns, coolie hats and cormorants) go through the motions for the benefit of tourists and photographers aren't real fishermen.

Staged or not, it is an evocative picture. Reminds me of Christian Chaudet's film of Le Rossignol by Igor Stravinsky.

See what you mean. Perhaps when the present generation of "fishermen" have retired, they'll be replaced by puppets, but high-tech, lifesize ones which can perform all the actions.
