'The plughole' .. 'Ladybower dam'..
View North across 'Ladybower dam' near Sheffield UK. and now very close to overflowing .. this dam differs to many others as it features an earth embankment and not a solid masonry dam wall where the water will spill over - instead two 'Spillways' were constructed to act as 'plugholes' ..here is the West spillway shaft...which plummets 30 metres straight down into the River Derwent outlet below.

Thanks.. DOMCHO'... Ladybower was built early 1940s... lots of good walks in the area too.

Yes .. I am always interested to see what's down these things.. and it's scary at the same time.
Going down the spillways is a sheer drop of 30 metres... then opens to a slope into a large drain.. big enough to drive a car along..

Real scary... there were small boats very close by too with fishermen on board... I wouldn't fancy that either.... take a look at the video'... it shows everything.
