Sheffield.. UK. Four - very significant specks in the sky.

Sheffield.. UK. Four - very significant specks in the sky.
Here.. in the city of Sheffield ..we took a look to the skies today 22/02/2019.., to see a unique flyover of US and Royal Air Force aircraft – to mark 75 years since the 'Mi Amigo' disaster on 'Friday 22 February' 1944...The 'Mi Amigo' a US Air Force B-17 Flying Fortress returning from a bombing raid, crashed at 'Endcliffe Park' - killing her crew of 10 American servicemen. Local boy - Tony Foulds - then 8 years old..witnessed the crash and has been tending the 'Mi Amigo' memorial in Endcliffe Park for many years. Tony's story was picked up by BBC presenter Dan Walker as he walked his dog - he spoke to Tony in the park and it's captivated the world’s media ever since.
among other aircraft .. were a Dakota, CV-22 Osprey, KC-135 Tanker, MC 130

The image here is a still from my movie showing four.. F15 Strike Eagle Fighter jets..as one powers off with an earth shattering roar to vertical - as a salute to the 10 airmen.

Ulrich John, aNNa schramm, Andy Rodker, Janet Brien and 3 other people have particularly liked this photo

I have been familiar with this tale for some time.
Are you from Sheffield, Dave? If so do you remember Sugg Sports? This was the shop of my great grandfather and his uncle, Frank Sugg, Yorkshire, Lancashire and England before him (cricket) .
A terrific shot by the way!
Have a good weekend!

David,

Saw a clip of this event on BBC World News ... thousands of people turned out to support Tony Foulds..[I dabbed my eyes too] this will never be forgotten.

saw the film of the fly past on TV. I think they called this a ‘missing man’ formation.

Wow...thank you so much for explaining the whole story about the airplanes we're looking at in your picture. What a terrible tragedy. :( I'm glad there is a memorial.

Wow, this is so wrenching and yet the respect is incredible and so just.

Thank you.. Janet.. / The whole story was brought to light by a BBC presenter who spoke to 'Tony Foulds - now 82 who has been tending to the memorial for many years. His tireless work was recognised which led to this historic flypast.. as always much information can be found via Google... Cheers from Dave... UK.
