Porthgwarra. Tunnel for boats - and people!

The tunnel links the small beach at this tiny fishing hamlet, with a more protected cove. The small boats could be hauled through the tunnel up to the latter if the seas threatened to be too rough for the beach. That frayed old blue rope is handy if the granite is wet underfoot!

I guess it started as caves at either end and then they were joined together. Jenny says there are a few of these in the Southwest.

Yes, granite wouldn't be my choice of rock to try and cut a tunnel through!
