Another view of La Machota Chica

How fascinating to have this old Roman road so close to you. I would love to investigate that small off road, but I have enough trouble standing on level ground, that something like that would definitely be out of reach for me.

I was fascinted by the strangeness of the Roman road as it didn't seem to have a recognisable raison d'être! It seemed to go neither from nor to any known Roman towns that we know of, didn't have any relationship with other known Roman roads (with their logical network) and seemed very well built in some sections but less so in others. The theory that it was built to link up various mining areas in the Sistema Central mountain ranges is just about plausible but really, the jury is still very much out!
I feel for you. I expect the time will come when I too will be unable to get out into the mountains and roam freely, due to the accummulation of various ailments but while I still can I hope to make the most of it! Even so, too many days out in the copuntryside is a time-consuming activity and I have other peoples' lives and interests to consider!
