The Basset Monument, Carn Brae, Redruth and Camborne, Cornwall
Built in 1836 to Lord Francis Basset, Baron de Dunstanville, a tin 'mine owner who was revered by his employees' ... apparently.

He must have been a kind employer for his employees to feel that way about him.

I have my doubts as you can see from my notes and Jean's reply, Eunice!!!
However, it is possible!

It's clearly in a very dominant position, which may be relevant.

It seems that somebody tried to make a copy of the monument (foreground) in a quite simple way. But, to my opinion, he failed ;-)

The monument looks pretty good against the sky. I really like the way it's colour matches the surrounding rocks. You've captured the detail in the stonework very well Andy.

Perhaps that is because it is made of the surrounding granite rocks! There were granite quarries all around until quite recently.

I love the foreground interest provided by the boulders. There is a great analogous colour scheme throughout the scene. Cheers, Joe

Yes! Same for me obviously! But there are still some issues for me. No audio on links and no access to certain admin functions. But I'm sure they are working on it!

Thank you, Ron! It's on top of the prominent hill that dominates the town and landscape for miles around, Carn Brae! Hard to miss! Unless it was foggy; which is always a possibility!

This is a very impressive monument indeed - amazing brickwork. What I do love too are the enormous stones balanced ontop of each other.
