Look at the top - bolts are still in place - but not so further down the door. No. I still have no idea!!!
But, what I do see is the ruts in the floor where the metal wheels of centuries of carts must have ground their way through!

Fascinating! Maybe the holes were for ventilation? Or just decoration....
