Wild tulips (having a party). Sierra de La Cabrera, June 2013

They only open at the height of the strongest sun and when the temperature gets really hot, sometimes for an hour or so only. I have seen them closed on a sunny and warm day - it just wasn't quite hot enough. This is not photoshopped or edited in any major way. The tulip colours and the grey of the degraded granite were as seen.

Es gibt wunderbare Wildtulpenarten. Ich lernte mit Herrn Dr. Boris Winterholler (ehem. Direktor des Bot. Gartens in Almaty / Kasachstan) einen Botaniker kennen, der die Wildtulpen in den kaukasischen Sowjetrepubliken erforscht hat. Er stellte wahre Tulpenschätze vor.
Andy, Dein hier gezeigtes Foto ist wunderbar. Unglaublich, was so karger Boden hervorbringen kann.

Thanks too for pointing out that you didn't alter the colors...it really does look like the background is muted to help the flowers pop out even more. How cool that the setting is natural! Well, I often see them in their unopened state (still beautiful in their own little way!) but the thrill is seeing them fully opened and lapping up the sun at it's highest and strongest in about mid June!

Me neither, and I had to think a bit as to what they were, when I first stumbled across them! They only open when the sun is at it's highest and the weather is hot enough!
