Ocotillo Grove

As I've noted, we spent the second full day of our time in Big Bend National Park driving down the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive, stopping to hike and take photos along the way. This was our destination that day. We were near the Rio Grande, at a spot along a dirt road where we camped for the night. The area is known as Ocotillo Grove and is named for the cacti that are common there, one of which is silhouetted in this photo. We camped here because we planned to go kayaking on the Rio Grande the next day. After getting our sleeping quarters arranged we wandered around the area for a while, waiting for the sunset.

Belle atmosphère sur la 2 pip.
Thank you so much for your visit to my seemingly unknown flower...guess what?! I figured out what it was!! Those precious "blossoms" are actually the sepals from Seablush and if you take a look, you'll see the growing seed pods in a couple of them! LOL, don't you just love it? I have often mused of the gorgeousness of various flower sepals, thinking that they could be flowers all by themselves. Well, what do you know?! I went ahead and found some that I thought were blossoms and didn't even know it! :D I remember wandering around our meadow one day and seeing these "flowers" again...right next to them were Seablush flowers that were almost done...and then it hit me...omg they're the same! Then I laughed and laughed! What fun, eh? :)
Rain? We've had just a bit...wish you'd share, it's going to be so dry this summer. Our seasonal pond was only full last winter before the year turned and has been lackluster ever since. It will be dry in a couple of weeks I think, though, as memory serves I guess that's the time it dries up normally--beginning of June.
Happy to hear they've been giving you access to water, if only temporarily. We've had breaks in pipes that drained our water tank...that's a terrible situation because we would have to order a water truck and they would take at least a day to arrive. Terrible when we had no warning of course. People living in cities have no idea how easy they have it in so many ways! Still, nothing beats the rural life, tyvm!!
Heh...the moment Steve sat down at his computer I read him your description of salmon and topping with romaine etc...his reaction? "What time do you want us there?!" :D :D "That sounds FANTASTIC!!" LOLOL, omg Ron...the pair of you...the things you would try together! Fun stuff. We ladies have it so good...a 5-star restaurant every day...how marvelous.
Steve made us keto hamburger buns yesterday, topped with something a seasoning we originally learned about from Trader Joes: www.refinery29.com/en-us/2017/02/142126/trader-joes-everything-bagel-seasoning
It's the stuff you sprinkle on bagels or buns as the last thing and I'm telling you, this stuff is MAGIC! Here is a recipe I found to make it yourself: www.asweetpeachef.com/everything-bagel-seasoning
The blend is just out of this world...anyway, we had burgers last night and they were sooo good!!! :)
Computer games--yeah, I used to love the text adventures too...Zork was marvelous fun! These days there are zillions of amazing games for any type of interest one might have. If you ever have the interest, check out the game store, "steam.com"...
Glad to hear your parents aren't in total lockdown now but...wow...the accident...*shakes head*...it is so bad when you have to take the keys away. My dad got to that point too and fought my brother tooth and nail regarding driving. Never agreed he couldn't drive anymore. My what a danger they are to themselves and others...but you know, I get it...I really do. It's horrible to admit that one cannot do something anymore because of age/infirmity. I mean, I can't run anymore. Not for years. It's a very tough nut to swallow, esp because I did it to myself. One can sit and wallow in what we no longer have due to age/issues or we can just be gloriously overjoyed with all we CAN do and forget about those things. That's what I do! :) Our parents can be very stubborn...but...so can we...the best we can do is pay attention to their loudest cries of anger about loss of ability so we can prepare ourselves for the eventuality.
Anyway, I'm off! My game has me making hot air balloons, wind turbines, bridges and generators...I'm training my new llama mount, I'm learning to make specialty cooking dishes to please specific friends and I'm cultivating relationships, exploring, mining, planting, picking wild herbs and flowers,...etc. etc...what fun...
