I called this plant a cactus in one of my last posts. It is not a true cactus but a spiny shrub that looks like it is dead for most of the year but produces tiny leaves and flowers in the spring. Its stems, too, seen up close, are partly green. Also known as coachwhip, candlewood, slimwood, desert coral, Jacob's staff, it produces pink to red flowers. It is native to the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts of Mexico and the southwest USA. We saw some of them in bud in Big Bend National Park but none in flower.

Oh NEATO! What a cool, cool plant! Your pictures are a treat and such a nice show. I really got a nice understanding of it from a full view to up close and personal. I looked up the flowers and wow, aren't they grand! Too bad you didn't get to see them but still, you sure shared their beauty nicely! Thanks for all the different views, how I would love to capture this plant with my macro lens! :)

I am enjoying your visits so much...I'm happy that you feel the same way I do about it! :) :D We do love our chatter, it's just the best! :)

Glad you've been enjoying the Applegate hike pictures...what a place that is, Ron. Yes, you would just love it there. All these years later and I remember that hike vividly. Incredible beauty. My pictures could never do it justice but give a sample at best. :)

LOL, I think MY writing about your feast wasn't clear...I understood the grilled romaine was off to the side, and would have been wolfed down ravenously by Steve and me! :D The poblanos you described sounded fabulous! Heh, all this talk about spicy food has me thinking about those fiery pickle chips I told you about a while back...I've been putting them on my burgers the past two nights and I adore them! ( www.amazon.com/Famous-Daves-Devils-Pickle-Chips/dp/B00MVAVU8S ) Steve is a big baby and will only eat the normal spicy ones, heheh... I think he enjoys watching my head explode when I can't resist eating several chips at once! Holy AAAAOOOOOGAH they are HOT and SO TASTY!! When eaten along with other stuff the spice is cut down to a wonderful accompaniment of wonderful flavors. YUM!

I'm glad you're being realistic about travel expectations. It totally sucks but everything is such a mess. I can't imagine how horrible the lines and frustration must be for air travel. And really, it's all going to be a mess. If we wanted to camp somewhere, the reservation system is sure to be snarled. And the grounds themselves are likely to be an issue too. *sigh* But time will slowly fix all. It's just a mess for now as it's all worked out.

Interesting that your BLM is open while ours is not. At least, the Table Rocks nearby are still closed. Thinking about the openings of parks and things, all I can picture are hoards of crazy people being stupid...but maybe it's not like that at all.

I am not, however, surprised to see that there are so many new cases as idiots mix and mingle. I just wish they'd keep the virus to themselves but they don't...they just gotta spread it to the infirm and then their stupidity leads to the deaths of people who were trying to stay clear of it.

Where you live sounds so nice! Lots of great places to see and explore--just like us, actually! Endless beauty wherever we explore! :) Oregon and Washington are amazing!!

Your furniture projects sound ambitious and will be very satisfying in the end I'm sure. Much work and a great payoff to enjoy later.

Ok I'm outy! Have a great day! :)
