Mission Concepción

Our main object in visiting San Antonio, Texas, recently was to see again the old Spanish Mission for which the city is famous. Beginning with the Alamo in downtown San Antonio, there are five old missions along a ten-mile stretch of the river. Previously we had visited these by car but this time, starting from our guesthouse, we went by bicycle. We rented bikes near the guesthouse and followed the riverwalk (the part of the riverwalk that connects the missions is known as the Mission trail) to each of the Missions. This photo and the first of the insets show the first of the four missions we visited that day (we did not go back to the Alamo), Mission Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción de Acuña. The third inset shows some of the flowers we saw along the way and the last inset my wife on her electric-assist bicycle. We had looked forward with eager anticipation to this part of our trip and were not disappointed. The electric-assist bicycles we used were a good choice and allowed us to enjoy the mission trail in a leisurely fashion, the weather was perfect and the missions were as beautiful as we remembered.

Have a nice day ;-)
Hooray on your comments about my nifty agate stone! *high five* Steve and I just love that rock, and for the same reason you do--it's not round at all, but instead has a wonderful and unique shape with interesting texture and colors. I do love the highly polished round ones of course but the one-of-a-kinds will always be a favorite to me. Kind of like how I decided to be as a wee kitling...as far back as nursery school I liked to choose the less common option, stand apart from the others. And I admire that in everything as I go through life, so of course that agate is GRAND! :)
Heh, got a lovely interruption just now. Steve came in to share a special moment. Every morning after Steve's shower--expertly supervised by Pumpkin, who whistles her happy little head off and laughs boisterously at the proceeding--he carefully dries himself off with the smallest area of towel possible so that it gets the moistest. Meanwhile, Pumpkin is sitting on the railing around the top of the shower dancing from foot to foot in anticipation, urking at him. "HURRY UP DAD!!" When he's dry, he reaches up for Pumpkin with the towel held up between his hands with the moist part of the towel as a pocket...by this time Pumpkin is literally straining towards him and fluttering her wingies (in case he didn't know her desires! :D)...she literally dives into the humid, very warm pocket and then burbles and chirps and whistles at Steve as she is transformed into Burrito Bird! :D <3 It's so darn cute and adorable, there just aren't any words. Steve rocks back and forth with his little baby burrito bird, holding the little package of love up to his face while they cuddle and whistle together. She eats this up...it's warm and steamy, which is perfect for moisturizing her feathers and skin, and who doesn't love a good cuddle? :D So today he brought her into the game room just now, so that he could hold the Burrito right next to my face, uncovered for a moment to allow me to kiss her whistling, chirping noggin! She was delighted to see me and chortled happily :) :) ADORABLE ADORABLE ADORABLE!! :) Even though I've tried to describe this, you just gotta be here for the experience...pretty amazing. :)
Ok, I'll be back in a while to write some more, thanks so much for your lovely comments! :)
