Mission Concepción

Our main object in visiting San Antonio, Texas, recently was to see again the old Spanish Mission for which the city is famous. Beginning with the Alamo in downtown San Antonio, there are five old missions along a ten-mile stretch of the river. Previously we had visited these by car but this time, starting from our guesthouse, we went by bicycle. We rented bikes near the guesthouse and followed the riverwalk (the part of the riverwalk that connects the missions is known as the Mission trail) to each of the Missions. This photo and the first of the insets show the first of the four missions we visited that day (we did not go back to the Alamo), Mission Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción de Acuña. The third inset shows some of the flowers we saw along the way and the last inset my wife on her electric-assist bicycle. We had looked forward with eager anticipation to this part of our trip and were not disappointed. The electric-assist bicycles we used were a good choice and allowed us to enjoy the mission trail in a leisurely fashion, the weather was perfect and the missions were as beautiful as we remembered.
