Mission San José

Mission San José
These are photos of the second Spanish mission we visited along the Mission Trail in San Antonio, Texas, Mission San José. This is the most impressive of the missions and has most of the outbuildings still standing and in good condition. It is also, to my mind the most impressive architecturally, though several of the other missions have a unique beauty.

Nouchetdu38, Nora Caracci, Frans Schols, J. Gafarot and 14 other people have particularly liked this photo

These mission stations are almost built like small castles, as they are known here in Europe...

Oh my, Ron...what a host of lovely pictures to showcase this gorgeous architecture. It is really magnificent and so stately with its tall bell tower (is that right?) and elegant dome. I agree that it's really beautiful, and I love the insets you included to give us more views. I envy you! This is the sort of thing I'll be able to show Steve to help convince him that Texas IS a GREAT destination! :) (LOL as if the natural destinations won't get him! :D) Steve went to TX to pick up our yellow BMW motorcycle (it's so cool looking! www.supermoto.photo/gallery-riding-motorcycle ) and then he rode it all the way home...and it happened to be horribly stormy so he ended up buying WADERS to keep the wet away from him! Anyway...he thought TX was totally dismal. Whenever I try to tell him there really are some nice places there, he can only see what was in his memories on those nasty, rainy days...anyway, thank you for he ammo, it will definitely turn him around! :)

I'm checking in to let you know that we're fine and you are on my mind many times every day. I keep seeing the airport situations and mounting restrictions and cringe at the thought of you guys in these ridiculous 6-hour (literally) lines through TSA checks. *sigh* Steve and I are happy to be ensconced on our 26 acres with all of our basics provided for...going out to the stores is like an apocalypse around here, though happily people haven't gotten into fights around us--there's been nothing to fight over! (Is it wrong of me to laugh my head off at all of those selfish, horrible people who bought up everything and were trying to sell via Amazon and Ebay...and then got locked down so they have tons of this stuff and nowhere to sell it. They infuriate me to the point of explosion...how could people be SO HORRIBLE to want to profit on this terrible disaster? Yee gads. What blows my mind is that they feel like they've been wronged and we should feel sorry for them. It's beyond my comprehension...

Needed to make some room in the freezer to extra store meat so ti turned (most) of the chicken and goose bones I had into a magnificent bone broth-based chicken-goose soup with carrots, celery, onion, spices and boullion, and the addition of roasted chicken...Steve loves this so much, as do I. Much richer, more savory and healthier than a standard chicken soup because of the bone broth. I used to wrinkle my nose at the mere idea of "bone broth" but once I tried it and used it for the base of recipes, I swear by it! YUMMY!!

Thank you very much for the remarks on my agate triptych, I'm delighted that you like that pretty rock too! Also, thank you for your comments on the bed that Steve made for me, he told me to tell you "THANK YOU!!" for your compliments! And as for signing him up for projects around your house, he said, "Sure thing, I'll get right on that! HAH!" Heh, when will we be able to use our trailer, we wonder? Things aren't locked down but by the time we're ready to hit the road, we fear there will be a lockdown in place. Meh. Well, it won't last forever.

Anyway, I'm signing off now...much adventuring to do!! :D Pass my regards along to Nancy! :)

The architecture is so severe for a church, but so necessary for a fortress.
