➽ Ephesos in der Landschaft Ionien gelegen, war im Altertum eine der ältesten, größten und bedeutendsten Städte Kleinasiens.
In der Antike lag die Stadt direkt am Meer; durch Sedimentation sowie klimatische und seismische Veränderungen verschob sich die Küstenlinie im Laufe der Zeit nach Westen, so dass sich die Reste der Stadt heute ca. 20 km landeinwärts befinden.

In this times, the city was located directly on the sea; By sedimentation, climatic and seismic changes, the coastline shifted over time to the west, so that the remains of the city today are about 20 km inland.

Yes Ephesus, located in the countryside of Ionia, was one of the oldest, largest and most important cities of Asia Minor in ancient times.
And it is one of the most important herigates in the world still.
(As you know Excavations have revealed grand monuments of the Roman Imperial period including the Library of Celsus and the Great Theatre. Little remains of the famous Temple of Artemis, one of the “Seven Wonders of the World,” which drew pilgrims from all around the Mediterranean. Since the 5th century, the House of the Virgin Mary, a domed cruciform chapel seven kilometres from Ephesus, became a major place of Christian pilgrimage.)
Maybe the administrative measures took late... But it is better now (2019..)
