Meryem Kilisesi - Marienkirche - Church of Mary

Wenige Kilometer südlich befindet sich auch das Wohnhaus, in dem Maria nach der Auferstehung Jesu, zusammen mit anderen Frauen und dem Apostel Johannes, gelebt haben soll. Bis zu ihrer eigenen Himmelfahrt soll sie dort die Menschen in Heilkunde und der Lehre des Christentums unterrichtet haben.

Maria hat auch für Muslime eine wichtige Bedeutung. Sie ist als Mutter des Propheten Īsā ibn Maryam – wie Jesus im Koran genannt wird – die einzig namentlich erwähne Frau im gesamten Buch:
"O Maria, siehe, Allah hat dich auserwählt und hat dich gereinigt und hat dich erwählt vor den Weibern aller Welt..." (Sure 3, Vers 42 ff)

A few kilometers to the south is also located the house where Mary is said to have lived after the resurrection of Jesus, together with other women and the Apostle John. Until her own resurrection, she is said to have taught people in medicine/naturopathy and the doctrine of Christianity.

Mary also has an important meaning for Muslims. As the mother of the Prophet Īsā ibn Maryam - as Jesus is called in the Koran - she is the only named woman in the entire book:
"O Mary, behold, Allah has chosen you and has purified you and has exalted you above all the women of the world ..." (Surah 3, Verse 42 et seq.)
