Griechisches Lied (Greek Song) by Hannes Wader (my translation):
Ξεκινά μια ψαροπούλα απ’ το γιαλό, απ’ το γιαλό
ξεκινά μια ψαροπούλα απ’ την Ύδρα τη μικρούλα
και πηγαίνει για σφουγγάρια, όλο γιαλό, όλο γιαλό
(A fishing boat sets out
A fishing boat sets out off small Hydra
and is going for sponge fishing, along the seaside, along the seaside)
When the winter mist, snow and rain
the darkness, the darkness
are weighing heavy on my soul.
for such a long time now, such a long time
I'm longing for the south
where the sun will warmed my tired spirit,
my frozen stiff limbs, my heart,
at last that's giving me again new strength
Then, after a long journey
I will be received from that place, from that place
as a good old friend.
The people there, the people there
who know me for years
I hear them call my name
and even strangers do;
the words mean: Good
that you came.
And there will be a warm south wind,
who blows the desert sand, the desert sand
from Africa over here.
And over the land, over the land
the air will flicker from heat,
while in the cool shady rooms
a scent is floating, like in my dreams,
of bloomed trees and wild flowers.
Once I'll arrived there I will never
go away, never go away.
I still have many good years
till they will bury me after a long life
by the sea amid the green vines,
where the temples are inhabited by gods
who look after and spare those
who seek peace close to them
