➽ Ephesos in der Landschaft Ionien gelegen, war im Altertum eine der ältesten, größten und bedeutendsten Städte Kleinasiens.
In der Antike lag die Stadt direkt am Meer; durch Sedimentation sowie klimatische und seismische Veränderungen verschob sich die Küstenlinie im Laufe der Zeit nach Westen, so dass sich die Reste der Stadt heute ca. 20 km landeinwärts befinden.

In this times, the city was located directly on the sea; By sedimentation, climatic and seismic changes, the coastline shifted over time to the west, so that the remains of the city today are about 20 km inland.
