Old Todmorden

A few months back we walked an unknown stretch of the Rochdale Canal from Walden to the centre of the old Yorkshire village of Todmorden. Just as we got to the edge of the village I spotted this very interesting wall that may once have been a dwelling perhaps. Of course for us fans of fences and suchlike it offers a real treat. The canal itself runs just between me and the low wall here.

Ah yes, I did mention that too, to my wife when we got to the village centre. I knew the noun Tod but had forgotten Morden - my German grows worse as years grow on. Anyway pleased you liked this and enjoyed the name.

A great shot, Herb, that spiral staircase really appeals. Interestingly, there is a cattle station in central Australia named Todmorden - I presume named by a former resident here. HFF and best wishes for the weekend.

David, I think you have it right there as there were other clues that pointed to loading bays and warehousing here. All these canals were basically created to provide these places with raw materials and then enabling the finished products to market. I know I am teaching my granny to suck eggs here!

What a great location Herb.............and a very nicely detailed image. I really like the wrought iron fence and spiral staircase. It was probably a very busy place once but now frozen in time.
