Wow, a so clair sky in the night!

The area up here is a very dark night one, only hindered by the many nights of thick cloud that are usually present. In reality it did not look quite as bright as this -only my long 10 second exposure and high iso settings make it so. Thanks for the call.

nothing nicer that to see the full landscape under moonlight. shows just how its worth putting in the effort to get the shots when you see it all together like this. quite a spectacular shot some thing I tend to shy away from but moon light is a whole different light not to be ignored..... perfect shot.

Thanks a lot Steve. As you know, it is always a great effort for me, to go out in the middle of the night in order to capture such scenes. After waiting months to see some stars again I had to take this opportunity when it was there, even with a full moon like this. The light from that bathed the ground almost to daylight but fortunately, there is so little light pollution up here that the stars remained bright too. Glad you enjoyed it and and it goes without saying that without your continued input this would not have happened.

Thanks a lot Ester. It was a trial getting out of bed after a few hours to prepare and capture this. I took 18 for this panorama but I took another two similar 18s too. I was up therefore almost an hour. Glad you enjoyed it.

I am totally impressed by the technical skill which has gone into this.

In recent years, I don't think I have ever seen such a clear sky, and if I did I wouldn't have had the skill to do this to it!!

Peter, I am most happy again that you have enjoyed so much another of my shots.

I am like you, living in a place where skies like this are very rare indeed and when it should be clear (for example just a week ago at 1am) there is much conurbation light pollution. To see the heavens like this one in Scotland is a real treat. Yes a lot of technical hassle but as Steve P says above, worth putting the effort in for.

Full points for this, Herb. Apart from the technical competence it's a great panorama and the moon has indeed turned night into day. I'm impressed at a double row panorama, I usually shoot portrait but very wide angle as a single row. Like Steve, I tend to avoid moonlight for sky shots, this makes me think maybe I should give it a run.

Thanks for this George. So good that you have enjoyed it and it has given food for thought. It all looked much too bright at the time but it came to a nice conclusion in the end via a bit of editing. The double row was a bit extravagant with this very wide 11mm as it only really added about 20% more sky here. I did in fact do an even higher third row but the fish-eye distortions for a stitch proved impossible to master. Since taking this I have taken another star (almost milky way) panorama nearer home again in two row but have now decided to keep it to just one row in future for this focal distance. I look forward to seeing your bright moonscapes in the future too.

ps Lots of cloud and rain at Perth for Steve and so an agonizing wait for clear skies again for him.

Thanks Keith. I must admit that when I first saw other peoples similar shots I felt the same as you do here. Fortunately having Steve Paxton (see intro) in my loop of Ipernity friends gave me a great start in enabling me to try and have a little success in this now. Of course, I have a long way to go in best techniques but like you perhaps, my biggest problem is getting to see stars in the first place here near Manchester. Glad you enjoyed it. You must have a go yourself -you only need a tripod and patience :) ~ Herb
