Balancing act!

A superb capture, which I am sure could illustrate many a bird magazine. Of course it gets a star! At the moment we have a fairly comical sight of a little mother blackbird feeding her substantially larger offspring (but no pics yet)

Hi Peter. I have already said elsewhere how much I value your comments here. Your star means a lot to me and puts a value on this capture. We are very lucky that our quite urban neigbourhood still manages to support a great variety of avian life in our garden. In practice these starlings are rather rare for us, as like you we have several residing families of blackbirds, sparrows, robins, tits and finches besides much too many recent pigeons and magpies. Yesterday, just a day after the above snap, our poor parent blackbirds were calling their admonishing warning to their young for hours as a nearby murder of magpies cried their baleful shrill calls, on attacking the nest. Such is life in the wild. - Look forward to seeing your pics of your birds.

Hi Steve, you are dead right about the one go at it. Co-incidentally at exactly the same spot this morning, doing exactly the same thing was a pair of house sparrows. The acrobatic antics were not as good though.

Nice one Herb very well caught, especially the differences in the plumage between old and young

You are right Richard, the young one here is nearly the same size as the parent but one can tell the age by their plumage.

What a super shot Herb! I have been watching the sparrows doing just this from my kitchen window. The young are as bit and in some cases, bugger than the parents! A big star :-))

A fabulous capture!

Thanks Andy. When I first glance at it on here it sure looks eye-catching. A pity that it was not sharper on the heads and eyes even though my camera was on a tripod. This was due to the low level lighting and my insistence at using this lens at its near best aperture of F8 so even at iso1000 it was still only 1/100th. OK for still subjects but not these quick moving moments. Ah well, glad you enjoyed it all the same.
