Jupiter and all its moons- Do look large.
It was not much of a night try the tracker with everthing for the first time a lot did not work as it should. I turned the camera to Jupiter I thought at first I was getting very bad vibrations from the plate all the dots in a line.

From the Top Io, Jupiter, Europa, Ganymede And Callisto. If you look at the setting that was trying to dim the planet Jupiter down but lost all the stars in the sky at ISO 64 and F13

It surly is It is not easy to shoot these planets as they are just so bright but happy with the result as well.

Stunning shot Steve. I suppose the only way would be to take one shot like this and one of a shorter exposure for the planet only and then try to meld them so you have the darker planet with brighter moons. But.....

you are right, Jupiter is too bright in comparison with the moons and stars

Yes you are right but none that I took worked out well enough to use hence the single straight up shot. I have since thought about it and having read Ko 's thoughts do not use the tracked speed time but keep the camera on the tracker but use it in a "S" seetiong rather than "M" to just take Jupiter.

Sadly clouded in so can not even give it a go. Made up for a bad night.

Yes just how I was trying to do it as well but nothing I could think of on the night worked so I did not try and meld the shots. There will be a round two of this shot.

I would suggest a f/6.3, higher ISO to reduce T, then you don't need a tracker

Nothing I tried on the night worked and was good enough to use that I took I went for a Jupiter shot and a moons shot but I was not able to get one good enough to use. I will try this again tracked but turn the camera to Shutter mode rather than try on 50 second tracked. your thoughts lined up with what I will try now its just get a clear night no clouds.

Yes, the extreme range of brightness between Jupiter, its moons and the stars is a problem. When I pop your shot to full screen on black, there are still some stars. I tried a Jupiter shot some time back, but found I needed to blend multiple exposures: www.ipernity.com/doc/tiabunna/48655294/in/album/557017

Great starter but not I was after the boys are right but no matter what I tried could not get it to work. it has to be two photo the moon and then Jupiter way faster shutter speed to get the detail. a huge learning curve some time I wonder why I started...... thanks for the vote of confidence.

Not so deep space this is Mid city lights, for wide shot that is so true. It is so much easier out in the dark you can see just where you are looking in the city lights its all a blur.

Hi Steve,

You must be very pleased with this one!
When I have tried for Jupiter, I end up with a very bright planet, and a few moons very close to it.
Curious that the planet here is dim and fuzzy..

But you try and learn!!
