A pair of eagles has been nesting in this tree and a nearby tree for at least 12 years. In almost every year, they have raised at least one chick.

Hair ice is formed when the air temperature is just below freezing and the humidity. Ice is extruded from the pores of a plant and freezes in thin filaments. On this morning, the air temperature was -4℃ and the humidity was 96%. I see this several times per winter on clear mornings within a few meters of the edge of the pond.

The air was clear this morning, so I got some crisper photos of the mergansers. There were four; the other female was separate from these three.
